Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a verse?+
Tap the plus button, type a reference such as John 3:16, Psalm 23:1-6, or 1 Cor 13:4-7 as the title, choose a translation, and tap Look Up Verse. The text fills in and the title becomes the full reference. You can edit anything before saving, or skip the lookup and type a verse yourself.
Which translations are available?+
ESV, NIV, CSB, NLT, and KJV. The translation you pick is remembered for next time, and each verse shows which translation it came from.
Why does lookup say "Passage not found" or that it couldn't read my reference?+
Check the book name, chapter, and verse numbers. Most abbreviations work (Ps, Matt, Phil, 1 Cor), but a verse number past the end of a chapter will not be found. If you're offline, lookup needs a connection; the rest of the app does not.
How do flashcards work?+
Open a verse to see the card deck, then tap the eye icon. Reference First hides the verse until you tap the card. Verse First hides the reference instead. Random picks one or the other for each card. Swipe a card left or right to move to the next one.
What does Feature do?+
Swipe right on a verse in the list and tap the star to feature it. The home screen widget then shows only that verse instead of rotating through your list. Swipe again and choose Unfeature to go back to rotation.
The widget isn't showing my verses.+
Add at least one verse in the app, then remove and re-add the widget if it still shows the placeholder. The widget rotates every 30 minutes; tapping the arrow in its corner advances it immediately.
Are my verses backed up or synced?+
Verses are stored only on your iPhone and are included in your normal device backup. There is no account and no sync between devices. Deleting the app deletes your verses.
